Last weekend was the Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, which is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. As an international student in China, I was excited to experience this cultural holiday for the first time.
On the morning of the festival, I woke up early to prepare for the day’s activities. I put on my new hanfu, a traditional Chinese outfit, and headed out to the park with my friends. There, we saw many colorful dragon boats racing on the river. We also watched a traditional lion dance performance, in which performers dressed as lions danced to the beat of the drums.
After the performance, we went to a local restaurant and enjoyed some Zongzi, a traditional Chinese food made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. We also drank some realgar wine, which is believed to have a detoxifying effect, according to Chinese tradition.
Overall, I had a great time celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival in China. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture and traditions, and I will always cherish this memory.
